What Is Paint Protection Film (PPF)?
PPF is a transparent, self-healing film applied directly to the paint. It consists of multiple layers of polyurethane and is typically 150–200 micrometers thick.
**Protection against:**
• Stone chips and gravel
• Scratches from car washes or branches
• Bug residue and bird droppings (etching)
• UV radiation and yellowing
**Self-healing effect:** Modern PPF films (e.g., from XPEL, STEK, or Suntek) feature a self-healing surface. Light scratches disappear through heat exposure (sun or warm water).
What Is a Ceramic Coating?
A ceramic coating is a liquid-applied nano-coating based on SiO₂. It cures to a glass-like layer and is typically only 1–3 micrometers thick.
**Protection against:**
• UV radiation and oxidation
• Chemical influences (bird droppings, resin, acid rain)
• Light wash scratches (swirl marks)
• Contamination (hydrophobic effect – water beads off)
**No protection against:**
• Stone chips
• Deeper scratches
• Mechanical damage
